Ask Your Company to Match Your Donation.

Many businesses will match charitable contributions made by their employees, board members, or retirees. This could double or even triple your contribution to CLRLT, thereby maximizing the impact of your support.

Please check with your human resources office if they match contributions and include their matching gift form with your pledge. Kiindly alert us that you have made these arrangements when you send us your gift.

Sustaining Gifts

Fund the Future! Support conservation 12 months a year!

In a world of relentless change, help keep vital conservation lands the same. Join CLRLT’s monthly giving program and secure the watershed you love.
Monthly sustainers make a positive impact on our on-the-ground conservation activities 365 days a year!

Donor-Advised Funds

You can make a grant recommendation from your donor-advised fund to support our work, even while growing the fund tax-free over time. This increases your impact for future giving.

When you recommend a grant through a donor-advised fund, your designated sponsor will validate us as non-profit and work directly with us to make the donation.

Longer-term, your donor-advised fund can also support our work upon final distribution of its remaining funds. Please consider naming Cacapon & Lost Rivers Land Trust as a successor of your account. You can name us as the successor for all or a portion of the account value.

Your Gift Matters!

We recommend consulting your tax advisor and lawyer to determine what planned gift strategy is best for your tax situation. Estate-planning professionals can help fulfill your wish to make a lasting impact.

Give from your IRA

Protect the forests, farms, rural heritage, and waters of the Cacapon Watershed by turning your required minimum IRA distribution into a gift to Cacapon & Lost Rivers Land Trust.

You can make charitable contributions from your Traditional or Roth IRA if you’re 70 ½ years of age or older. This could reduce your taxable income. A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) may allow you to donate up to $108,000 per year (check annual limits with your financial advisor).

Important: your plan administrator must issue the check directly to us, the charity.

Consult your plan administrator or your tax advisor for more information about QCDs.

Stocks & Mutual Funds

You can support our work by donating stock or mutual funds. To ensure your gift of stock or mutual funds is received and correctly acknowledged for tax purposes, please notify us before transferring shares.

As a first step, contact us by phone at 304-856-1188 (ext. 1002) or by email give@cacapon.org, so that we are aware of your gift intention and can provide you with appropriate instructions to execute the forthcoming stock transfer.

We will need the following information:

  • Your name
  • The name of the stock or mutual fund being transferred
  • Number of shares
  • The name and phone number of your broker

For more information or questions, reach out to us.

Gifts of Real Estate

Consider donating real estate, such as a personal residence, rental property, vacation home, farm, commercial property, or undeveloped land.

A gift of real estate can support our work for years to come. It can also benefit you. When you donate appreciated property that you have held for longer than a year, you may qualify for a charitable federal income tax deduction which may reduce or eliminate capital gains tax. Moreover, you don’t have to go through the process of selling the property and are relieved of maintenance costs, property taxes, and insurance fees.

CLRLT can accept both conservation-worthy farm and forest land, which we would likely protect with a land protection agreement before finding a new owner, and non-conservation lands (like a house or commercial site), which we could sell to support the protection of conservation lands.

You can also deed the property directly to Cacapon & Lost Rivers Land Trust or ask your attorney to add a few sentences to your will or trust agreement. (Link to “Leave a Legacy” section)

We would love to hear about your real estate donation plans!
