CACAPON INSTITUTE

Cacapon Institute was founded to protect the Cacapon River and “Appalachian watersheds.” Since then, the Institute has grown to reach a broad audience across the Mid-Atlantic. From the Cacapon to the Potomac to the Chesapeake Bay, we protect rivers and watersheds using science and education.

Our primary focus is habitat restoration to benefit eastern brook trout throughout their native range. This includes, but is not limited to: livestock exclusion, alternative water sources, riparian tree plantings, streambank stabilization, in-stream fish habitat, and aquatic organism passage mitigation.

The West Virginia Association of Conservation Districts supports West Virginia’s conservation districts and conservation district cooperators and partners. WVACD works with partners to assist in delivering conservation, advocacy, training, and programs to all West Virginians.

Our mission is to conserve and restore West Virginia’s exceptional rivers and streams. We value clean water as the foundation of life. We believe that all people should respect and be able to enjoy clean West Virginia rivers and streams. We operate under the premise that inclusive and diverse civic engagement is the key to building political power to affect change.
