The Cacapon’s Amazing Birds: a conversation with Dr. George Constanz

October 19 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

How does a Yellow-billed Cuckoo migrate annually between the Cacapon River and Colombia? Why do Canada Geese fly in formation? How does a Pileated Woodpecker avoid concussion? Join us for a potluck dinner and interactive conversation with local biologist George Constantz about the many amazing adaptations developed by our local birds.

George is perhaps Cacapon River’s best known ecologist and writer. He creates reader-friendly natural history stories based on basic research findings in the field of evolutionary ecology. He is the author of Hollows, Peepers, And Highlanders: An Appalachian Mountain Ecology, and is currently writing a book about Appalachian birds. George also invested two decades helping grassroots watershed associations build scientific and organizational capacities. He is a founder of the Cacapon Institute, which began as the Pine Cabin Run Ecological Lab, and currently serves on the board of directors of Friends of the Cacapon River.
